Questions About a Lottery Game or Purchase

Did I Win a Prize?

If you need help finding the correct winning numbers please visit the Past Winning Numbers lookup page and search for winning number results by game, specific date, Raffle number or Club Keno draw number. Instant Tickets can be taken to any Michigan Lottery retailer to be checked for winnings.

I Matched Numbers But How Much Did I Win?

Each Michigan Lottery game has its own prize table. You can find this information by visiting the Games page and then selecting your game. You should see a clickable menu above your game and then select "Prize Table" to determine your winnings.

How Can I Find Out What Prizes Are Remaining for Instant Games?

This information can be found by visiting the Prizes Remaining for Instant Games page which is updated once per day.

How can I get Club Keno "To Go" working?

Be sure that you are using the latest Flash plug-in with your browser. This can typically be found at the Adobe Flash website and easily installed on your computer. It is also recommended that only a high-speed internet connection is utilized when playing.

Winning Numbers or Jackpot Amounts

Why does it take so much time before the winning numbers are posted to the website?

In order to ensure that the most accurate information is posted online, it typically takes 20-30 minutes before numbers publish to the website but on occasion further delays may be encountered. Player's Club members can visit the Notifications Page and sign up to have winning numbers sent directly to their mobile phone or inbox.

Help Finding Specific Information Online

I can't find what I'm looking for?

Most information is available on the MichiganLottery.com website but occasionally you may find specific information on the www.michigan.gov/lottery website. You may want to check this website as well to see if it helps you find what you are searching for.

Can I Search the Website?

Your best option is to follow this link to a Google page that allows you to search only pages found on MichiganLottery.com. Just type in the keywords you're looking for and click the "Advanced Search" button on the bottom of the screen.

What If I Win?

How Long Does a Winner Have to Claim His/Her Prize?

For all Michigan Lottery on-line games (Mega Millions, Powerball, Classic Lotto 47, Keno, Fantasy 5, Lucky Lines, the Daily Games, Raffles and Club Keno), winners have one year from the draw date to collect their prize.

For Michigan Lottery instant games, winners have until the Claim By date listed on the back of the ticket to collect their prize.

Do I Have to Pay Taxes on My Winnings?

All Michigan Lottery prizes are subject to federal, state and local income taxes. The Lottery is required by law to report to the IRS all winnings greater than $600. The Lottery is required by law to withhold estimated taxes at the rate of 25 percent (federal) and 4.35 percent (state) for any prize over $5,000 paid to a U.S. resident. Winners of prizes greater than $600 will receive a W2-G form, detailing prize payment and taxes, at time of payment to be filed with their yearly federal, state and local income taxes. Non-U.S. residents winning prizes of greater than $600 are subject to a flat 30 percent estimated federal withholding rate as well as the 4.35 percent state withholding rate and will receive a 1042 form detailing prize payment and taxes in February.

How do I request a duplicate W2-G?

Duplicate W2-G's can be requested by calling 517-373-6001.

Do I Have to Release My Name to the Public?

In 1988, the Michigan Legislature enacted Public Act 243 which gives winners of prizes greater than $10,000 the right to remain anonymous. However, Mega Millions and Powerball winners are exempt from this act. The names and cities of residence for all Michigan Lottery Mega Millions and Powerball winners (including the jackpot) are considered public record.

If I Win a Jackpot Installment Prize But Die Before I Receive All Scheduled Payments, What Happens to My Remaining Payments?

The prize is paid out in FULL. According to the Michigan Lottery Act, "the Lottery Bureau shall continue to make the remaining prize payments to the prize-winner's surviving spouse and living children, in equal proportions, unless otherwise directed by the prizewinner. If no spouse, children, or beneficiaries exist, the remaining prize payments shall be made to the prize-winner's estate."

How to Start a Lottery Club

Lottery players in cities all over the U.S. are pooling their resources for an increased chance at lottery riches. Dozens of Michigan-based lottery clubs have collected top Lottery prizes, and players throughout the state are finding out that clubs are a fun way to try their luck at Lottery. So how are they doing it? By forming lottery clubs, and you can, too!

What Is a Lottery Club?

Put simply, a lottery club is a group of at least two individuals who purchase wagers in a lottery game together and if a prize is won, it's divided among the lottery club members. It is up to the lottery club to determine its rules of operation, including distribution of prize monies to members. Before a prize can be claimed in the name of a club, an Employer Identification Number (EIN) must be obtained.

How Do You Start a Lottery Club?

It’s really quite easy. Simply obtain an SS-4 form (Application for Employer Identification Number) from a U.S. Treasury or Internal Revenue Service (IRS) office. You can download the SS-4 Application for Employer Identification Number form from the IRS Forms and Publications page. Other useful forms are also available at this site

You may also call the IRS forms number toll-free at 1-800-829-3676 to order the SS-4 form. Once your form is completed, return it to the IRS, not to the Lottery.

How will the IRS know what portion of a prize a lottery club member received?

The club is required to fill out a Substitute 5754 form prior to prize payment. On this form (which will be signed by all club members), each member's name, address, date of birth, phone numbers and Social Security number will be listed, as well as their portion of winnings before taxes. This information will be used by the Lottery to issue payments and the IRS during tax time.

At time of payment, the club members will each receive a W-2G Form, showing their portion of the prize and income tax withholding, if any. Each member then uses the W2-G Form to complete his or her yearly tax return for the year in which the prize was paid by the Lottery.

For more information about federal income taxation and club reporting responsibilities, contact the IRS at (800) 829-1040.

For state tax information, contact the Michigan Department of Treasury at (517) 636-4486

Questions About Unclaimed Prizes

What Happens to Prizes When They are not Claimed?

By law, all unclaimed Michigan Lottery prizes (or portions of a Mega Millions or Powerball prize funded by Michigan) revert back to the state School Aid Fund.

Assistance Submitting Codes

Why can't I submit my code?

If you experience a “Code Error” while submitting tickets, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. First, make sure that you are using the correct codes. For Instant / Scratch Tickets, codes can be found underneath the scratch portion along with the 3-digit book number code found at the bottom, or back side, of the ticket. Draw Games codes can be found on the bottom center of the ticket below the barcode.

Need help finding the codes? Check out the online help documents for locating codes on Instant Tickets or Draw Games.
  2. Make sure that you are using the white boxes within any given “Ticket Entry” area rather than placing all numbers in a single box.
  3. Check your Account History page and verify your previous entries to ensure that the ticket wasn’t submitted already. The system will not allow the same code to be submitted twice.
  4. Check your Account History page and verify that you have not exceeded the per day code entry limit. There is a daily limit of 40 code entry submissions per day per player. Bonus codes are counted toward the 40 code entry limit.
  5. Check your ticket very carefully to ensure that it is not a winner. Multi-draw purchases on Draw Game tickets are considered a winning ticket if a prize has been paid on any of the draws. You can visit any Michigan Lottery retailer and have them check your ticket to verify any winnings.
  6. Check your ticket to see if it has expired from eligibility into the program. Instant Tickets will expire on the ‘Claim by’ date featured on the back of the ticket. Draw Games tickets will expire one (1) year from the original purchase date printed on your ticket.

Do I have to submit 10 tickets at a time on the Enter Codes page?

No, you may enter anywhere from 1 to 10 tickets at any time.

Is there a limit on how many tickets I can enter per day?

There is a daily limit of 40 ticket submissions per day per player.

Why is there a limit of 40 ticket entries per day?

This limiting factor ensures that the Michigan Lottery can maintain a rewards program which is exciting and attainable but also fair and equitable for all members.

Once I enter a ticket on the Code Entry page can it be used again?

A ticket may be entered one time only.

I have tickets that I can’t remember whether or not I have submitted. How can I see what tickets I have entered?

Each time you submit a ticket, a record of your entry appears on the Account History page of the site. All of your entries appear on that list for your information and reference, so you can check the list against the tickets you are holding.

Can I double my chances to win by entering tickets on the Internet and then mail them in as an entry?

No. Internet entries are not eligible to be mailed in, and vice versa.

I would rather mail in my tickets. How do I do that?

Check the back of your instant tickets to find out if a mail in method is available for that particular game. If the game is eligible for mail in entry it should also reference instructions on how and where to mail in your entry.

Questions About Winners and Prizes

After an entry period ends, when will the winner be posted to the website?

This process could take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks to post the winner to the website. After a drawing is conducted, winners are contacted and given time to understand tax implications, accept the prize formally, verify identity and verify proof of ticket codes. On occasion, if a winner cannot be verified the Lottery would move into Alternate winners and the process would start over again. Once winners have been confirmed and finalized, they will be posted to the Winners page of the site.

How will I know if I won a prize?

If you are selected as a winner the Michigan Lottery Public Relations team will contact you directly by using the telephone or email information found in your Player's Club profile. All prizes that do not require identity and proof of ticket verification will be shipped to the address obtained from your Player's Club profile. Please visit the My Profile page if you need to update your contact information.

How will I get a reward item that I redeemed in the catalog?

All reward items will be shipped to your address obtained from your Player's Club profile. If the reward is a digital item, such as a music download code, then the reward will be emailed directly to your email address registered to your Player's Club profile. Please visit the My Profile page if you need to update your contact information.

Reward Items, Points and Transaction History

How do I earn points?

To earn points, submit the proper codes found on eligible non-winning Michigan Lottery tickets. Enter that code into the site and you will be credited with the point value appropriate for that ticket product. Typically, 2 points are earned per $1 in ticket value. If you need assistance finding codes, submitting codes or solving errors please visit the help section for submitting codes.

How do I know how many points I have?

Once logged in, your point balance will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. You may also visit the Account History page to view your transactions.

How do I redeem my points?

Once logged in, visit the Rewards & Prizes page of the Player's Club. There, browse through the catalog and choose an item. Then, follow the simple redemption process. Redeeming points in the catalog does not affect any of your previous entries earned into second chance drawings including the $1,000,000 “Play It Again” giveaway.

My point balance seems wrong. What should I do?

Sometimes your computer's cache (this is the short-term memory for your browser) will keep you from seeing the most current information, especially if your point total changed since you logged in. If your total seems incorrect, try refreshing your browser window. Or you could log off, close all browser windows, open a new browser window, and log back in.

Will my points expire?

Your points will expire one year from the date when you entered them into the site. Once expired, those points cannot be refunded or recovered. Visit the Terms & Conditions pages for details.

What happens to the entries that do not get picked in a drawing? Are they retained for future drawings?

Typically, no. Unless otherwise noted in the promotional rules, entries are valid for only one drawing. Occasionally, a promotion will permit entries to be eligible for multiple drawings.

I have Reward Points and would like to redeem them for entries from within the Rewards & Prizes Catalog. Is there a limit on how many entries I can earn?

Unless otherwise noted in the promotional rules for the catalog item, members may redeem Reward Points in exchange for drawing entries without limitation – permitting that the member has enough Reward Points available for redemption.

What happens if I submit my entry after the deadline for the drawing?

If there is another second chance drawing scheduled for the game, your entry will be eligible for that drawing. Any entries submitted after the final drawing deadline shall be disqualified.

Help With Auto-Entries and Play It Again

Where do I find Play It Again on the Player’s Club?

Play It Again is located on the Enter Codes page on the Player’s Club website. Just submit anywhere from 1 to 10 tickets at a time on the Enter Codes page and your Play It Again entries will be allocated automatically for every $10 in ticket value submitted!

What are Auto-Entries and how do they work?

Auto-Entries are a quick and convenient method for Player’s Club members to automatically earn second chance drawing entries without having to understand complex rules and ticket entry combinations. This enables the Player’s Club to offer a single page for members to enter codes at the pace which they desire! The Player’s Club automatically knows which tickets are eligible for which second chance drawings and will award them each time members hit the correct threshold while banking any partial entries submitted!

What are “partial entries”?

An example of this would be to consider that for every $10 in qualifying tickets submitted a Play It Again entry is earned. If a member only has $8 in tickets to enter on a given day the Player’s Club will bank this and, at any point in the future, when an additional $2 is entered the Play It Again entry will be automatically awarded to the member.

Is it possible to be earning multiple Auto-Entries for the same ticket submissions?

Yes, it is! The Player’s Club system understands the rules and eligibility for each ticket and will automatically award entries into any qualifying second chance drawing which may be concurrently available on the site.

How do I know how many entries I am earning into Auto-Entry drawings?

To view your entries into the Auto-Entry drawings, please visit your account history page. Here, you can view the dates and the drawings in which you have been entered.

What if I don’t want to be automatically entered into a particular second chance drawing?

There is no method available to opt-out of an Auto-Entry because you are not interested in the prize being offered. However, if you are chosen as the winner you may simply reject the prize and the Michigan Lottery shall choose an alternate winner.

Questions About the Previous “Instant Replay” Program

How is Play It Again different than Instant Replay?

The all-new Play It Again is still your favorite second chance drawing for $1,000,000 but now it’s even better! Player’s Club members can now enter non-winning Fantasy 5, Daily 3&4, Classic Lotto 47, Powerball, Mega Millions, Club Keno, Daily Keno, Raffle and Instant Games for automatic entries into a $1,000,000 drawing!

In addition to allowing more tickets into the drawing, we’re also doubling Reward Points! Now you’ll earn 2 Reward Points for every $1 non-winning tickets submitted. Fifty cent tickets are eligible for points too!

Did my Instant Replay entries transfer over to the new Play It Again program?

No. All tickets entered before December 10, 2011 are included in December 14, 2011 Instant Replay drawing. The December 14, 2011 finalist will be participating with two (2) Play It Again finalists for a chance at $1,000,000 in August 2012. Any auto-entries earned beginning December 10, 2011 will be included in a future Play It Again finalist drawing.

Submitting Draw Games ticket codes is different than submitting Instant Ticket codes. How does this work?

Check out the online help documents for locating codes on Draw Games.

Regarding tickets which I previously entered into Instant Replay – do I need to enter them again into Play It Again?

No, you should not re-submit tickets which were previously submitted for Instant Replay. Any tickets which you submitted for Instant Replay are included in the December 14, 2011 Instant Replay drawing.

Will I be able to access my previous Instant Replay entries or other information?

Yes, any Instant Replay entries you’ve previously earned can be viewed in your Account History.
